Texas Poet Laureate Jan Seale will speak at Lubbock Christian University tonight at 7 in the C.L. Kay Christian Development Center Theater.
A brief reception and book signing will follow the event.
Seale is a native Texan who lives in McAllen. She is the author of seven volumes of poetry, two books of short fiction, three books of nonfiction and nine children?s books.
The 2012-13 poet laureate teaches memoir and creative writing workshops both in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, where she lives, and nationally for writing groups and learning centers.
A resolution adopted by the 43rd Texas Legislature in 1933 authorized appointment of a committee by the lieutenant governor and the Speaker of the House to designate an outstanding and recognized poet, who also is a citizen of the state of Texas, as poet laureate, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission website said.
The state poet laureate currently is selected for a one-year appointment by the Texas Poet Laureate, State Musician and State Artist Committee, according to The Library of Congress website.
