Nokia Unlikely to Launch Windows Tablet at MWC

Published on:

?Although there has been widespread speculation that Nokia is about to show off its first Windows based tablet, a voice of dissention has emerged.

Nokia originally planned to develop a tablet of its own for launch early last year, but put them on hold when Microsoft announced the Surface tablet of its own, and due to concerns about the size of the market for Windows based tablets in general.

Analyst firm, Strategy Analytics says now that following extensive channel checks by their Tablet & Touchscreen Strategies (TTS) service, they understand Nokia will not unveil a tablet with a Microsoft operating system at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC).

They believe Nokia's strategy will be "smartphones first" for MWC this year, and say that in their opinion that is the correct strategy.

Of course, that doesn't rule out Nokia launching a tablet just after MWC though.

Last December, we reported that disappointing sales of the Windows RT tablets was causing Nokia to hold back on making confirmed orders and is reviewing its marketing plans.
