"American Idol" finalist Joshua Ledet of Westlake, La., is greeted by fans after his arrival from Los Angeles at Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles on Friday, May 11, 2012. Ledet, the 20-year-old top-three finalist on Fox's TV singing competition will be honored with a parade in his home town on Saturday, May 12, 2012, and a pep rally in Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles that evening. With the eleventh season finale of "American Idol" just a week away, many fans of the Fox talent contest aren't wondering who will capture the title, but whether sassy 16-year-old diva-in-training Jessica Sanchez or booming 20-year-old vocal showstopper Joshua Ledet would even have the votes to beat bluesy 21-year-old front-runner Phillip Phillips. LOS ANGELES (AP) ? The three "American Idol" finalists earned nearly uniform votes of confidence Wednesday from the show's judges. Now it's the audience tally that will determine which two compete for glory in next week's finale.

If the night had a teacher's pet, it was Joshua Ledet, 20, who delivered what Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler deemed flawless performances. Each contestant performed three songs: One picked by the judges, one by producer-mentor Jimmy Iovine, and one chosen by the singers themselves.

Ledet's gritty version of Etta James' "I'd Rather Be Blind" had the judges on their feet, a common reaction to the Louisiana gospel singer. He also impressed the panel with John Lennon's "Imagine" and Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama."

"This is another Joshua moment," Tyler said after the James cover, adding that Ledet sounded like an "American Idol" winner.

Jessica Sanchez, 16, of San Diego, didn't disappoint the judges on their pick for her, Mariah Carey's "My All." It drew what verged on another Tyler prediction.

"When you sing, you make people hang on your every note. ... You'll be the last one standing here, I believe," the rocker said.

There was praise as well for Sanchez's take on "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," from Tyler's band Aerosmith, but Randy Jackson found her performance of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" just "OK," differing with his colleagues.

Bluesy, guitar-strumming Phillip Phillips, 21, of Leesburg, Ga., had the audience swooning over his version of "Beggin'" by Madcon.

"Can you believe this guy?" Tyler said, gesturing toward the cheering crowd and suggesting that Phillips could be the "next Springsteen" if he wrote his own songs.

Phillips faltered with Matchbox 20's "Disease," which the judges deemed subdued and unimpressive, but he rebounded with Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight."

"The perfect song, at the perfect time, and your best performance on the show ever," gushed Jackson.

The audience vote will be announced on Thursday's show, which is to feature Lisa Marie Presley and former "American Idol" finalist Adam Lambert.

Hometown victory laps by the trio of finalists were chronicled Wednesday, starting with Ledet's trip to Westlake, La.

"They are really acting like I'm Barack Obama," a wide-eyed Ledet said of the police escort that shepherded him from the airport.

Sanchez, who got a lift from Los Angeles to San Diego by helicopter, was cheered during a dockside visit to the USS Midway and saluted her father, who she said served overseas as a naval reservist.

Phillips had an emotional reunion with his dad, Phillip Phillips Sr.

"To see your children doing what they love to do with integrity and passion, it's a dream come true for me," the elder Phillips said.

(AP) ? Manchester City's victory over Manchester United sparked wild celebrations among the blue half of the city on Monday, yet two difficult matches lie between the team and its first English league title since 1968.

Vincent Kompany's header in first-half stoppage time earned a 1-0 win to put City even with United on points with two games to play, but ahead on goal difference.

Assuming United wins its final two games against Swansea and Sunderland ? two teams with little to play for ? then City also must win its final two matches against teams that desperately need victories.

City's next game is on the road against a Newcastle United team still chasing Champions League qualification, followed by a match against a Queens Park Rangers side battling to avoid relegation.

"It's not finished," said City manager Roberto Mancini. "If we think it's finished it will be a big mistake."

"We are very happy but next Sunday we will have another difficult game (against Newcastle). Very difficult," Mancini said.

City's win on Monday was not as emphatic as its remarkable 6-1 win in their initial league match at Old Trafford earlier in the season, but the tension level was several notches higher.

That was reflected in the second half when Mancini and United manager Alex Ferguson confronted each other on the sideline and had to be kept apart by officials as they yelled and gesticulated at each other, though tempers had calmed enough by the end of the match for them to shake hands.

The confrontation was sparked by a hard challenge by City's rugged midfielder Nigel de Jong on United striker Danny Welbeck, catching him across the ankle and Achilles tendon.

Though Welbeck played out the game, he reportedly left the Etihad Stadium with his ankle in a protective cast, putting him in doubt for the final two games and perhaps a place in England's Euro 2012 squad.

Mancini had publicly written off his team's title chances when it trailed United by eight points at the beginning of April.

Whether it was a genuine opinion or an attempt to reduce the pressure on his players, its seems to have paid off ? and he continued to play down expectations even after going to the top of the standings.

"I don't think it's important what I say to my supporters or my players," Mancini said. "It's important that we work well and that we play a good game on Sunday against Newcastle."

"In two games, everything can happen," he said. "We have a big respect for United because we know they are a strong team. We have two tough games, instead they have two easy games."

City led the league for most of the season, but struggled on the road, culminating in a loss at Arsenal at the beginning of April that appeared to cost the club the title. However, United left the championship door ajar by conceding two late goals in a 4-4 home draw against Everton before the Manchester derby.

This unexpected opportunity is one that Kompany, the Manchester City captain, said the players were determined not to let slip.

"We've been waiting for this moment," he said. "It's far from over, and we know that, but just to give our fans two wins over Manchester United this season ? we have to finish it off."

The derby win meant City has won all but one home match this season, drawing the other.

"Newcastle is now our focus," goalkeeper Joe Hart said. "Hopefully we can push on and get one game closer."

Ferguson conceded that City was now the title favorite, but sounded a defiant note ahead of the final matches.

"They're in the driving seat now," he said. "They only need to win two games of football.

"It's not over yet, of course it's not. As long as there are games of football to play it's not over. We have both the same points, but they've got an eight-goal advantage ? it's a big advantage at this stage of the season."
